The Upavon, Rushall & Charlton LINK scheme is in urgent need of more volunteer drivers. We drive 'clients' to hospital appointments and similar (in our own cars). The clients are people in ours and other local villages who aren't able to get out and about under their own steam. They telephone our coordinator Mike Thorne and tell him where their appointment is and when, and he then telephones around the volunteers to ask if anybody can help them.

Shortage of drivers has meant he is starting to have to tell people we can't help them.

Drivers can claim back 45p/mile in expenses (via an easy-to-use online system). The clients are asked to make a voluntary donation on each trip.

Many trips can be as short and sweet as collecting someone from Watson Close and taking them down to the village shop and back. But the majority - of my trips at any rate - are to Salisbury Hospital and take a couple of hours including waiting time at the hospital (drivers are given parking permits that allow us to park free of charge, usually in special Link bays).

You can always turn down a trip for any reason at all, you just say sorry can't do this one, and Mike goes on to the next person on the list.

If you think you can help - even just occasionally - please get in touch with me as soon as possible on 0750 100 4349
