Avon Valley Cricket Club

Big Garston Field, Rushall

Cricket200

AVCC have started the season with 4 wins out of 4, very unusual as close followers the club’s progress will agree.

We started with an 18 run T20 victory over Friends of Stonehenge School on a new (and really nice) Amesbury ground at Archers Gate.  We followed up with a 9 wicket win, chasing down 201 against Aldbourne at the former county ground of Westbury. Next, we beat Poulshot away in their first game for 15 years, chasing down a T20 88 runs for 4 wickets (with only 8 players).

Finally on 15 May, we managed to beat close rivals, Marden by 65 runs in the Richard Cox Memorial match in our first home game on our Rushall ground, which was looking a picture in the sunshine.  With a combination of donated tea money and hefty fines for good and bad play, we managed to raise a healthy sum for Wiltshire Air Ambulance, Richard’s favourite charity.

This is village cricket at its best with the only requirements being enthusiasm, not taking it too seriously and a white shirt.  We very much welcome anyone who’d like to give it a go.  We play most Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
